Mrs F. Clark (vice-president) presided at the monthly meeting of the Livingstone branch held on Wednesday last. The roll call was "A conundrum," and "A wash-day dinner." A competition. " bloom," resulted: —Mrs F. Clark 1, Mrs J. J. Cook and Mrs W. Barnes (equal) 2, and another competition arranged by Mrs R. C. Cook was won by Mrs J. W. Cook. Mrs A. E. Kennedy was hostess.

The supper hostesses were Mesdames J. Simpson and R. Ruddenklau.

The Ngapara branch held its meeting on Wednesday last, when Miss Butt presided. The roll call was "My earliest recollections." The competitions resulted:—Onion—Miss N. Watson. 1, Mrs Butt 2; thrift article from old silk stockings—Mrs A. Eckhold 1, Miss N. Watson 2, Mrs Butt 3; worked apron—Mrs E. Morrison 1, Mrs A. Eckhold 2; mixed sweets—Miss N. Watson 1, Mrs A. Eckhold 2; bloom—Miss McCulloch and Mrs Butt (equal) 1, Miss E. Morrison 3. The hostesses were Mrs J. McCulloch and Miss Butt.

The September meeting of the Omakau branch was held at the home of Mrs Scorgie, who presided. The after-

noon was spent in crocheting squares to make woollen quilts for refugee children. Mrs Charles reviewed the executive meeting held in Dunedin recently. Members decided to support to the best of their ability the Fighter Plane Fund sponsored by the W.D.F.U. Mrs H. Glassford and Mrs Truesdale jun.. were the hostesses.

The Poolburn-Moa Creek branch met on Thursday last. Mrs Nevill presiding. The motto was "Wondrous is the strength of cheerfulness." Mrs Mcintosh attended to the sale table. A patchwork cushion, made by the members, realised 375. and was won by Miss McDonald. The sum of £6 was given towards the soldiers' Christmas parcels, and £2 to the W.D.F.U. appeal for fighter planes for Britain A total of 15 Balaclavas have been sent in. Miss Kathleen Harrex gave a recitation. Mrs Buchanan and Mrs Noone were the hostesses.

The monthly meeting of»the MilburnClarendon branch was held on Friday last, Mrs Elliott presiding. Interesting talks on gardenine were given by Mrs Ashworth and Mrs Whittaker. The roll call was "A sixpenny supper." The competitions resulted: —Darn on flannel—Mrs Young 1; bloom—Mrs Elliott 1. Mrs Cullen 2. Mrs Young 3; spikeMrs Cullen 1. Mrs Young 2. Mrs Elliott 3. The hostesses were Mrs Kane sen., and Mrs Cook.

At the monthly meeting of the Hawera Flat branch Mrs Scott presided and Mrs Nottage gave an interesting talk on "Life in the New Hebrides." The competitions resulted:—Thrift article—Mrs Gray 1. Mrs Scott 2; lower—Miss Jopp 1. The hostesses were Mrs Gray and Mrs and Miss Halliday.
