EROSION AT ST. CLAIR

ro THE EDITOR

Sir—Some 10 days ago you published in your paper a letter of mine on the subject of erosion at St. Clair. Neither the chairman of the Domain Board nor any of the other authorities responsible for the present state of our ocean beach offered any comment upon it. I am prepared, on receiving their reply, to publish my full name and address in defence of my statements which are absolutely correct. It has been suggested to me that the present state of the ocean beach is purely due to man's interference with the laws of Nature—i.e., in planting marram grass and lupins on the sandhills in the first place. Before th:s interference the condition of the beach was quite all right, as Nature always is. It is no use locking the stable door when the horse has gone, and something will have to be done immediately.—l am, etc., Better Ocean Beach
