Army “Soccer” Match A message from Lille states that, by winning the third “ Soccer ” match by 2 goals to 1 against the French Army, the British Army won the rubber. Fire in North London ~ A British Official Wireless message from Rugby states that more than 300 firemen and auxiliary fire service men and women, using 60 fire fighting appliances from all over London, fought a large fire in a North London wireless valve factory late on Saturday night. The firemen continued to work all night, although the outbreak was in hand some hours after the alarm was received. It is considered likely that the whole factory has been destroyed, although, being isolated, no other damage has been done. Canal Defence Zones A message from New York states that after inspecting the canal zone defences, particularly secret works involving 362,000,000 dollars, President Roosevelt sailed for the Pacific. It is believed that he plans to fish at Peal or Cocos Island. Germans on Japanese Liner A message from San Pedro states that 30 German officers and seamen from the Standard Company’s oil tanker Harry Gseidel arrived from Valparaiso aboard the Japanese liner Heiyo Maru and are expected to continue to Kobe to-morrow. It is reliably stated that 10 Germans from a German freighter taking refuge on the west coast are also on board. United States naval circles are surnrised in view of the undertaking by Japanese lines not to transport Germans of military age. Japanese Vessel Searched A message from Tokio states that the captain of the Ryushin Maru has advised the ship’s owners by radio that she is returning to Japan after havjng been searched by a warship of unknown nationality off Mindanao Island, in the Philippines.
