DESTROYER SUNK
LOSS OF THE DARING VICTIM OF TORPEDO LARGE NUMBER MISSING (United Presr Asso Mation) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, Feb; 19. (Received Feb. 20, at 1 a.m.) The Admiralty regrets to announce that the destroyer Daring has been torpedoed and sunk. One officer and four ratings hkve been picked up but nine officers, among them the captain, Commander S. A. Cooper, and 148 ratings are still missing. The Daring was a destroyer of the Defender class and was of 1400 tons. She was completed in 1932 and was armed with four 4.7-inch guns, six of smaller calibre and eight 21-inch torpedo tubes. She was a sister ship to the Duchess with which she served on the China station.
