TOWN CARRYING

POSITION OF RAILWAYS DEPARTMENT APPLICATION FOR LICENCE DECLINED In view of statements made at a recent transport conference at Wellington that the Railways Road Services were not co-operating with other forms of road transport to effect coordination, and that they were .cutting too much into the town , carrying business, there will be interest in the fact that at a public sitting of the. No. 4 Transport Licensing Authority at Invercargill last Friday an application by the Minister of Railways for a town carrier’s licence was refused by the authority, Mr V. Raines. He added that for the carriage of its own property, such as tarpaulins, a town carrier’s licence was not required.
