FRENCH CENSORSHIP

DEMANDS ON PRESS A SCATHING ATTACK PARIS, Feb. 16. (Received Feb. 17, at 6 p.m.) M. Blum, in the Chamber of Deputies, slashingly attacked the censorship when he opened the debate on the control of the press. He said that an incompetent military personnel had been _ appointed _ and the censorship had discredited itself by its ignorance of the conditions under .vhich the press worked, and made impossible demands on the newspapers, on which were inflicted heavy losses. Its oolicy was incoherent and it suppressed news to some newspapers and released it to others. It was impossible to keep France like a fortress cut off from the world’s news. Similarly in the last war bad wireless services had been ineffective. The debate was adjourned.
