BOWLING
MEETING OF CENTRE DUNEDIN CLUB WINS SHIELD The Dunedin Bowling Centre, at its meeting on Saturday night, extended its congratulations to the Dunedin Club, winner of the Saturday Shield competition. The chairman (Mr J. J. Davis) said that there were some interesting points to be noted in this season’s competition. Some of the large-section clubs had come to the top despite the fact that many bowlers believed that the system of scoring benefited the one-section clubs. On this occasion, however, the Dunedin Club, with 76 points, had made the grade and shown the way to Caversham and Kaikorai, which were second equal with 72 points each. New Zealand Council
With reference to the deputation from the Manawatu and Central Otago Centres which waited on the New Zealand Council asking for separate representation for every 1000 bowlers (i.e., 16 delegates for the North Island and 13 for the South Island) Mr Nelson stated that the present system .of representation was very satisfactory, and to make any alteration would be to return to the confusion of the years preceding 1913, when the present system of seven delegates for each island was formu lated. , _ It was suggested that, if the Central Otago Centre did not feel itself to be properly represented on the council, it could apply to the Dunedin Centre to look after its interests. •Representative Matches
The secretary reported on arrangements for the .Redpath Shield match on March 7. The North Otago Centre had asked to be represented in the Otago team, but it was pointed out that Christchurch would probably be playing North Otago on March 16. The matter was left in the hands or the Selection Committee. The matter of transport for the Otago-North Otago game pn March 12 was left to the executive officers with power to act. The South Otago Centre' notified that, owing to transport difficulties, it had been found necessary to abandon the annual match against Dunedin. —Noted.
