ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
BODY RECOVERED GOAT ISLAND FATALITY A body, which has been identified as that of Gordon David Keenan, aged 20, the young man who was carried away by heavy seas when his canoe capsized near Goat Island on February 4, was recovered on Saturday morning at Maia. Shortly after 8 a.m. the fireman on a Port- ChalmersDunedin train noticed what appeared to be a human body lying on the foi'eshore of the harbour about, a quarter of a mile north of Maia siding. On arrival at Dunedin he notified the police, who investigated and recovered the body, which was removed to the Morgue. An inquest will be held at a date to be fixed later. STRUCK BY TRAIN MAN SEVERELY INJURED (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 18. Struck by a train while walking along the railway track near the Petone crossing on Saturday morning, J. D. Webster, aged 21, of Kent terrace, Wellington, received head injuries and concussion, and was taken to the Wellington station by train, and from the train to hospital by free ambulance. His condition to-day was reported to be satisfactory. The accident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. Webster was walking toward Wellington, and apparently did not hear the train , approaching from behind him, though the driver gave a prolonged blast on the whistle. The train was travelling at about 10 miles an hour when it struck him. He was thrown to the side and down a bank, landing heavily on his. face.
