Saturday, February 17 (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) Drunkenness A first offender, charged with drunkenness, was fined 10s. Casting Matter David Balfour Middleton and John Gordon Cook were charged with casting offensive matter in a public place, both offenders being convicted and fined 10s. Charge of Receiving A young man, publication of whose name was prohibited until the facts are gone into, was charged with having received a quantity of cartridges, well knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained. —On the application of Sergeant Johnsen, who stated that the (accused had been going about the city on Friday night stealing from shops and motor cars, a remand until Wednesday was granted. Alleged Theft John Gordon Cook, aged 18, was charged with having stolen a rifle valued at £2, the property of Ernest Rose Gunn.—Sergeant Johnsen stated that there would probably be other charges to be investigated, and on his application the accused was remanded untih Wednesday on his own recognisance.
