GRAND THEATRE
Although widely different in type, “ Winter Carnival ” and “ Boy Slaves.” wnich comprise the current double bill at the Grand Theatre, both afford firstclass entertainment, and the programme is one in which comedy, romance, ana drama are cleverly blended. The principal feature is “ Winter Carnival.” the plot of which centres around the winter, sports of a big American coeducational college. The story tells of a wealthy divorcee who breaks her journey from Reno to renew old memories of her old college and to revive the embers of a former romance. Unfortunately, she is unable to escape publicity, which to a certain extent interferes with her campaign, but finally everything comes to a satisfactory climax. The picture is spectacularly staged, and some of the sequences are notable for some skilful ice-skating. “ Boy Slaves,” the associate feature, deals with the problem of juvenile unemployment and the dangers that beset the paths of youngsters who have, in their early days, been denied the opportunity of becoming useful citizens. The box plans are at the theatre and at Begg’s.
