SCHOOL COMMITTEES
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION The first meeting for 1940 of the Schools Committees’ Association of Otago was held on Thursday night. Mr M. A. Robson presiding. Correspondence dealing with a number of matters was received from the Dominion Federation at Greymouth. — It was decided to support the efforts to secure free treatment at school dental clinics and to advise the federation that the position regarding school buses in this district appeared to be fvrv The Caversham School Committee wrote regarding the unsatisfactory position regarding its new dehtal clinic. —The association decided to take steps to endeavour to have this matter remedied. The chairman reported having visited Portobello to discuss association matters with the School Committee there. The new constitution, as drafted by the chairman, was fully discussed, and referred to the annual meetihg ip June for confirmation. NORTH-EAST VALLEY The North-East Valley School Committee met on Monday night. Mr J. J. Paul presiding. The school opened with a roll number of 544 at the Valley and 78 at Opoho. The new classroom at Opoho is nearing completion. The resignation of Miss H. A. Murray, was received with regret. The Education Board advised that a grant of £3 5s was being made for Continuous Readers, and the committee authorised the headmaster to purchase a further £5 worth. It was decided to hold the school picnic, if possible, at Waihola on March 9. The Visiting Committee submitted favourable reports on both schools.
