FORECAST FOR OTAGO FINE AND MODERATE The following special weather forecast for Otago, covering the ensuing 24 hours, was issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, at 5 p.m. yesterday;— Light, to fresh south to west winds. Weather fine with moderate temperatures. . Seas slight to moderate. DOMINION FORECAST MAINLY FAIR TO FINE

WELLINGTON, Feb. 18, The following is the official weather forecast for the Dominion;— A complex depression, which has been deepening, crossed the South ■ Island on Saturday night and is now centred between Cook Strait and the Chatham Islands. Pressure remains high to the north. Indications are for:— Winds.—From between west and south prevailing, but later tending north-west-erly again in places, force strong to gale at first over much of the Hawke’s Bay, Taranaki and Wellington provinces, but otherwise mainly moderate to fresh. Seas.—New Zealand waters: Rough about Cook Strait north of Farewell Spit and between East Cape and Banks Peninsula; elsewhere slight or < moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Fresh to strong winds from a westerly quarter and rather rough to rough seas. Weather.—Changeable over the North Island, with occasional showers, more especially in eastern areas; fair to fine ■over the South Island; temperatures cool In the south, otherwise moderate to mild. WEATHER IN DUNEDIN The sun shone strongly for a period on Saturday morning after heavy rain showers shortly before dawn, but the sky again became overcast in the afternoon and misty rain fell as evening approached. Temperatures were warm at one stage, the maximum being 71 degrees, but It became cool later. The barometer was rising in the evening at 29.6 inches (1005 millibars). Heavy rain set in early yesterday morning but conditions improved throughout the day. There was a light southwesterly breeze and temperatures were mild, the maximum being 63 degrees. The barometer rose steadily to 29.90 inches (1012 millibars).
