Mr H. H. S. While was a passenger by the express yesterday morning en route for Wellington. Dr R. J. M'Gill, of Dunedin, has been appointed house physician to the West End Hospital for Nervous Diseases, Regent's Park. Prior to taking up his duties on September 1 (says our London correspondent, writing on August 26), Dr M'Gill is spending a fortnight with relatives in Scotland. Mr R. B. Bennett, ex-Prime Minister of Canada, accompanied by Mr F. D. Dwyer and Mr P. W. Brooks, will arrive in Dunedin to-morrow. The party will stay at the Grand Hotel, and will leave again on Saturday. Dr D G. M'Millan, M.P., and Mr P Neilson. M.P., left by the express yesterday morning on their return to Wellington. Mr Adam Hamilton, M.P., and Mr F. Waite, M.L.C., were through passengers by the same train Captain John Benton, of Auckland, arrived at Rarolonga by the Makura (says a Press Association telegram from Wellington) to take up his appointment as captain of the schooner Tiare Taporo, in place of Captain Rasmussen who is shortly taking up a position as resident agent at Penrhyn (720 miles north of Rarotonga) with the Cook Islands Administration. The United Press Association special correspondent at Rarotonga advises that Judge H. F. Ayson (the Resident Commissioner) visited the lower group of islands for the purpose of administration and high court work towards the end of August, and returned to Rarotonga on September 5 Mr S. D. Blomfield, of the staff of the Otago Farmers' Union Mutual Fire Insurance Association and general secretary of the New Zealand Federa tion of Young Farmers' Clubs, has been appointed to the outside staff of Fertilisers (South Island. N.Z.), Ltd. Mr Blomfield was met by the members ot the staff of the Otago Farmers' Union Mutual Fire Insurance Association and presented with a set of books as a mark of their esteem. Making the presentation, the general manager (Mr A. C. Cameron) wished Mr Blomfield every success in his new sphere of activity. , The Union airliner Korimako left the Taieri aerodrome at 8.15 a.m. yesterday for Christchurch, Blenheim, and Palmerston North with Mr and Mrs J. R. Woods for Wellington, Miss C. G. Eden for Nelson, and Messrs Peter Drummond and P. Barling for Palmerston North. The Karoro arrived at 12.55 p.m. from Palmerson North, via Blenheim and Christchurch, with Miss M. J. M'Goldrick, Captain E. J. Fletcher, and Mr W. Taylor from Palmerston North and Mrs M Templeton from Christchurch. A Press Association message from Wellington states that the manager of the Australian Rugby team, Mr E. G. Shaw, continues to show an improvement in health. He was out of doors on Monday for the first time since he was confined to his bed at the Grand Hotel. T. P. Pauling is still in bed, and is having special eye treatment. Neither he nor the manager will be able to visit the South Island, but will rejoin the team on its return to Wellington. Messrs Newman R. Wilson (president), J. S. Skinner (vice-president) and M. S. Myers (immediate past-presi-dent) have been appointed to represent the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce at the 14th Congress of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of the British Empire to be held at Wellington from October 2 to October 7. Viscount Elibank, president of the federation, is to be present, and Sir Thomas Wilford will be the chairman of the council. Altogether there will be from 120 to 150 visitors from Great Britain and from such other parts of the Empire as Canada. Australia, South Africa. India and Trinidad. The visitors are to make a tour of the Dominion and will arrive in Dunedin during the week following the conclusion of the congress. Arrangements are already in hand for entertaining them during their visit to the city. ' Reference to the deaths of Bishop Richards, a patron of the club, and Mr W Best a life member, was made at the annual meeting of the Grange Cricket Club last evening, and a resolution expressing sympathy was carried, members standing in silence as a mark of respect. The chairman 'Mr Newman R Wilson) referred with regret at the meeting of Ihe council of -he Dunedin Chamber of Commerce last to the passing of two members—Messrs Robert Lee and H. K Wilkinson.
