MR MOORE AND MR SMITH TRIBUTES IN PARLIAMENT (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLING/TON, Sept. 15 The House of Representatives adjourned for a short time to-day out of respect for the memory of two former members who died recently— Mr Richard Moore and Mr Francis Henry Smith. Both represented South Island constituencies for short periods, Mr Moore holding the Kaiapoi seat for two terms and later becoming a member of the Legislative Council, and Mr Smith representing the Waitaki electorate. Moving a resolution of sympathy the Prime Minister. Mr M. J. Savage, described Mr Moore as a lovable

character and a member who had been admired on all sides of the House'. Sir Apirana Ngata also paiu a warm tribute to Mr Moore who, tie said, had always remained one of the old school of Conservatives in the country " The records of Parliament show that Mr Smith was a fairly live wire," said the Prime Minister, when moving a resolution of sympathy with the family of Mr Smith, who had held the Waitaki seat from 1911 to 1914. Mr T. D. Burnett (Opposition, Temuka). said that Mr Smith had been a staunch follower of Mr W. F. Massey. The House adjourned from 3 p.m. until this evening.
