ORCHESTRAL CONCERT

The concert to be given in the Concert Chamber by the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra this evening should present several features of noteworthiness and interest to all. Mr Gil Dech, the new conductor, will have under his control a capable and welltrained orchestra, which should give adequate interpretation of the works to be performed. Probably the most outstanding items will be Schubert's '"Symphony in E minor," usually called the Unfinished, because it con-

sists of only two movements. It is no exaggeration to say that in these two movements are contained as many magnificent melodies, so happily controlled and woven together, "s most other symphonies of four movements Another item that should arouse much interest is Grieg's " Concerto in A minor," in which the beautiful piano solo will be taken by Olive Campbell. The association of this pianist with the Symphony Orchestra should provide an object lesson not only to the musician, but to the student. The remaining items to be given by the orchestra should have bright entertainment value, because of their joyousness and melodic appeal. Freda Elmes soprano, will sing Weber's " Ocean Thou Mighty Monster," which will have a full orchestral accompaniment and also Michael Heads's ".Blackbird Song" and " Beloved." from " Over the Rim of the Moon." Clarice Drake will be the accompanist.
