Lawn Tennis Twenty-two members were present at the annual meeting of the Cromwell Lawn Tennis Club, when Mr J. P. Gordon (president) was in the chair. The report showed that the past season had been a most successful one, while a credit balance of £2l 8s Id indicated a sound financial position. Office-bearers were elected as follows: President, Mr J. P, Gordon (reelected); vice-presidents, Messrs T. M. Ellis and W. Walkinshaw; secretary, Mr R. Rae (re-elected); General Committee—Mrs W. The opening date was fixed for October 3. Miniature Rifle Clubs At the weekly shoot of the Railway Rifle Club W. Webb won the gold button and S. Olds the silver button. Gridgman 32—11—43 The Haast Road During the past two weeks a good deal of material has been transported to Makarora for the first camp for workmen on the new road. It will be located towards the upper end of the Makarora Valley. Personal Mr J. Wells, the All Black footballer, is spending a few days in Cromwell, and will return to Dunedin for the Shield match on Saturday. He is the guest of Mr and Mrs E. Jolly.
