CELTIC BALL AT OAMARU
A successful social event this year in Oamaru was the Celtic ball, held in the Scottish Hall, at which there was a large gathering. The Australian footballers were the guests of the evening, and visitors were present from as far afield as Auckland, West Coast, and Invercargill. A new orchestra played popular dance numbers for the varied programme, which included many novelty dances. The efficient organisation of the ball and the artistic decorations reflected . great credit on the Catholic Women's Committee. The colours of the Australian and North Otago Rugby teams—green and gold and black, maroon, and gold—played a prominent part in the decorative scheme. The entrance to the hall was decorated with wattle blossom, flax, and streamers, and the hall itself was made gay by a mass of overhanging streamers, through which the many-coloured lights cast further glimmering rays. The stage was decked out with palms and primus blossom. Messrs J. Rowlands and T. Mulhern made popular M.C.’s. Towards the end of the evening Mr J. L. Russell, on behalf of the Catholic Women’s Social Committee, thanked all those who had helped to make the ball a success. At the Lyric Hall a large number of non-dancers foregathered to
