The annual report and balance sheet disclosed that the centre was in a sound position and making progress. The competitions held during the season had been successfully carried out and enjoyed by all. The tournament, although practically confined to local players, was again an enjoyable fonclusion of the year’s bowling. A visit from the Dunedin Centre also added interest, and a return visit would probably be arranged for this season. The credit balance was gradually creeping up, and the membership was being maintained. The Arrow Bowling Club had applied for affiliation, but until a copy of its rules had been forwarded they could not be admitted. Two amendments to the Caotain Jolly Memorial Cup rules were brought forward by Mr Hewitt, and after discussion both were passed. It was decided that in the event of a tie in the shield fixtures, in which one of the larger and smaller clubs had to play off, the larger club should pick the full number of rinks playing in the competition and send the list to the executive. The rinks to play in the fixture would then be balloted for. It was also decided that where a section, through any circumstances, did not play on the date arranged, the same players should take part when the match was decided. It was agreed that the scoring should be by rinks instead of sections. Fruitgrowers’ Association The monthly meeting of the Clyde Fruitgrowers’ Association, held on Saturday night, was poorly attended, Mr J. R. Laing being in the chair. The principal business was in connection with standardisation of stone fruits. Messrs Laing, Campbell, and Davidson were appointed as a committee to go into the details and confer with the other associations, and their findings were to be brought back to the association for confirmation. Weather * Heavy rain, which will be beneficial to growth of all sorts, fell on Saturday night after a spell of hot weather. The board decided to procure 10 prepayment metres, and these will be installed where necessary. A list of outstanding accounts was submitted by the secretary, and he was instructed to take action in one case. Thirteen applications were received for the position of apprentice, and James Gutzewitz was appointed. Electrical Development Film Under the auspices of the Power Board three talking films were screened last Thursday. The films were descriptive of the origin and development of electricity; its many and varied uses in the home, and a glimpse of what might be expected in another 20 years. By means of dialogue, the many appliances that may be used were described in detail, and at the same time contrasted with old methods. The pictures were both interesting and instructive, and there was a large attendance. Mr R. T.
