BEAUTIFYING BRITAIN

COMMEMORATING THE CORONATION VALUABLE SUGGESTIONS (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, Sept. 11. (Received Sept. 13, at 7 p.m.) A list of suggestions designed to stimulate towns and villages to adopt schemes to commemorate the Coronation which would permanently beautify their localities is being prepared by the Coronation Planting Committee, comprising some 30 organisations interested in horticulture and the observation of the amenities of the countryside. In addition to the local schemes, it is proposed that the committee should undertake some special piece of work as a token of the whole, such as an alpine garden in one of the London parks, a model playground, the creation of a model garden theatre, or the laying out of a chief Empire park, etc. It is anticipated that the permanent amenities schemes undertaken throughout the country in connection with the committee’s efforts will be recorded in book form for acceptance by the King.
