NO A 1 NATION YET
The League of Nations, anxious that there should be a peaceful state * of affairs within the peoples of all nations, set qp a mixed committee, under Lord Astor, to consider the problem of nutrition; to teach them how to select their food. That was a year ago. Now the committee has issued its first interim report, revealing these main conclusions: There is no A 1 nation in the world to-day. Compared with other countries, Britain and the United States are well off, but even in these countries there is malnutrition, not all of which is caused by poverty. Milk is easily the world T s No. 1 nutritive food; it is the nearest approach we have to a perfect and complete food. High up the list are cheese, eggs, liver, fat fish such as herrings, green vegetables, raw fruit, fruit juices, butter and cod-liver oil. But the committee has not yet worked out the ideal diet. They point out' that demands of different nations vary so widely. For example, an Eskimo can live on nothing but meat foods. In Arabia sour milk provides 70 per cent, of the energy requirements.
