In the current issue of the Australian Museum Magazine several articles of interest beyond the Commonwealth appear including a history of the Devil Ray and its habits, and a description by K. I. LittlejohM of hi s final success .in exposing kinema films of the lyre-bird, lhe magazine is. as usual, finely illustrated. Special articles devoted to Kinjc George V and Rudyard Kipling appear in the February issue of the Empire Review. There are several other articles of considerable Imperial interest including a summarisation by Admiral Kerr ot the Japanese views which prevented progress at the naval conference, and a discussion of sanctions by the Duchess of * G° R Giles, the vocational officer of the Victorian Education Department, is the author of " Careers for Boy 8 and Girls" (Kobertson and Mullens, 3s). In this useful and comprehensive work he covers the whole field of employment that is before young people, and discusses comparatively the prospects available in 200 occupations. Handbook for 1936. Successive sections, well illustrated and extending over 320 pages, tell of Birmingham's progress from the time when the granting of market rights placed it in a position of importance in the Midlands, and, appropriately enough, due regard is paid in the centenary year of his birth, to the pioneering spirit of Joseph Chamberlain, " the maker of modern Birmingham." The Handbook is published by the city's information bureau, and copies are free.
