FIRES.
« BLAZE AT OPOHO. FOUR-ROOMED HOUSE DESTROYED. \ four-roomed wooden house in Black s road, Opoho, occupied by Mrs Hill and family, was almost totally destroyed by fire at about 2.30 yesterday morning. When the City Fire Brigade arrived on the scene the flames had such a hold that it was impossible to do much to check the outbreak before the building was reduced to a mere shell. Neither the out* houses nor the adjoining properties were affected. The occupants of the house were afray on holiday, and the origin of the outbreak fs unknown. The house was insured, but it could not be ascertained to what extent yesterday. OUTBREAK IN OTAGO FARMERS’ CO-OPERATIVE. PAPERS AND FILES BURNT. The City Fire Brigade was called to the Otago Farmers’ Co-operative Association’s premises in Crawford street last night at about 10.15. A fire had broken out in a small office in the wool store. The damage was slight, being confined to the loss of a quantity of paper, files, and books. No structural damage was done. The cause of the outbreak is unknown, but it has been suggested that a lighted match or a cigarette butt thrown away carelessly found its way into the office through a broken window which faced on to the
