FATAL FIRE

BIRMINGHAM FAMILY TRAPPED. SEVEN LIVES LOST. (Press Association—Bv Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, January 12. A disastrous fire occurred in a small house at Birmingham, occupied by Charles Pedley, his wife, eight children, and a girl named Dora Bhrker, which resulted in the deaths of Dora Barker, Mrs Pedley, and two children. Five others of the Pedley family were injured, four critically. The fire broke out in a stairway, imprisoning the occupants. The neighbours held out blankets below, shouting “Jump,” but the victims were bewildered by the smoke, and were unable to respond.—A. and N.Z. Cable. LONDON, January 12.
