Neill, James Mitchell, John Mitchell, G. J. Barton, A. Clarke, R. Telfer, W. Goughian, W. Quirk, T. Fogg, X. Elliott, and T. X. Ritchie. The Chairman referred to the death of the well-known Southland trainer, Mr A. Matheson, who had had a fatal accident while driving a horse on the training track at Invercargill. ■He said, that Mr Matho»on was a regular visitor to the club’s meetings, and was well known and highly respected by them all. He would move that a letter be sent to the relatives of the deceased expressing the club’s deep sympathy with them in their loss. The motion was carried in silence. D. H. Rogers, secretary of the St. John Ambulance Association, wrote stating that his executive gathered from press reports that owing to the very bad weather the club was faced with a considerable deficit in connection with its last race meeting. He was instructed to advise the club that his executive was quite prepared either to reduce or even remit altogether its charge for the use of the ambulance on that occasion if by doing so it would, be of assistance to the club.—lt was decided to thank the association for its very kind offer, but to state that the club could see its Way to pay the full amount per day (£6) to the association. J. C. Ray, secretary of the Gore Owners'. Breeders' and Trainers' Association, wrote stating that ho had been instructed to ex press the hope that when framing future handicaps the club would give greater oonsideratjon to the class of horses they had in Southland. At one time the club s 4.50 two-mile class had been open to, generally speaking, the average Southland horse, and had usually been well patronised. Another race that had suited Southland horse* was the one and five-eighth mile race, about a 3.57 class. Both races catered for the type of horse they had in Southland. —It was decided to reply that fhe letter would be referred to the Programme Committee for its careful consideration _ when framing future meetings, and to point out that the classes asked for were included in the programme for the forthcoming meeting. The Chairman stated that it had been decided to change round the places of meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Association and that the next meeting would be held in Dunedin at the end of the month. It was decided that the first race for the coming meeting should start at 12.30 p.m. and the last race at 5.15. Mr James Mitchell gave notice to move that the previous ‘ resolution of the committee regarding the reporting of their meetings be rescinded, and that in future they be held in committee, the secretary to supply the press reports Some discussion took place on the application from the City Council for the payment of £lOl, the difference required to make up the guarantee from the club of £I2OO for each two years, the revenue asked by the council for the carrying of passengers to the race meetings along the Richardson street line. It was pointed out that the council was giving no consideration to the carriage of passengers by buses to the course, and to the fact that many other passengers were carried there along the Richardson street line on tile occasion of the holding of coursing and athletic meetings, etc.—lt was agreed that as the second year had not yet elapsed the position could not be ascertained, and it was decided to do nothing in the meantime.
