COLLISION WITH STEAMER. BACK BELIEVED TO BE BROKEN. (Special to Daily Times.) WELLINGTON, January 13. The iron hulk Arawata, the property of the Union Company, was beached in a sinking condition shortly after 11 o’clock this morning alongside the Kaiwarra Railway Station. She has a full load of coal on board, and was being brought alongside the steamer Devon, which is anchored in the stream, for bunkering, when she bumped into the steamer and sprang a leak. ' The Arawata was originally a passenger steamer of 567 tons, and was launched at Glasgow in 1875. She had a speed of 15 knots, and she completed the trip from Glasgow to Melbourne in 52 days, including stoppages. She also did the | trip from Melbourne to Port Chalmers in five days—at that time the fastest ! voyage made. ;
