FERDINAND OF RUMANIA
GRIM FIGHT WITH DEATH. DOCTORS’ PITIFUL RIVALRIES. (Press Assootat'on—By Te'.egraph—Copyright.! PARIS, January 11. (Received Jan. 12, at 5.5 p.m.) An uncensored telegram from Rumania states that wrangling among King Ferdinand’s doctors is adding to the tragedy of the King’s fight with death. The royal surgeon, Professor Juvara, is accused of diagnosing hemorrhoids when the disease is really cancer. The rivalry between Professor Juvara and the other royal physician, Professor Gerota, ended in each countermanding the other’s prescriptions until Queen Marie ordered both to abide by the instructions of Dr Hartmann, a French surgeon. For the purpose of calming public anxiety the Queen asked Professor Gerota to sign a statement that the wound had healed. Gerota refused, as it was untrue. Another doctor who examined King Ferdinand states that the cancer has grown devastatingly. Further operation is impossible, and early death is inevitable. The King was normally 12 stone in weight, and is now eight.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
