INCIDENT ON PERRY BOAT. ONE MONTH IN GAOL. (Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, January 10. “This man has a long criminal record. He is the gentleman who committed a most audacious burglary in Auckland in l&ll, when he broke into Kohn’s jewellery establishment and stole a very large quantity of stuff. He went to America and on being extradited received five years hard labour, followed by four years’ reformative detention,” said Senior Detective Hammond, at the Police Court this morning in referring to William Morgan, .aged 38, who appeared for sentence, having been convicted by Mr F. K. Hunt on Friday last on a charge of attempted theft from a passenger on the ferry boat. One thing in Morgan s favour, said Senior Detective Hammond, was that he had been working hard tor the past four years. His hands showed that. However hi* last sentence was one of 12 months for keeping a brothel. Accused was an Australian, who had come to .Auckland not long ago by the Maunganui. “He comes here to steal, and when he <r e ts caught wants to be allowed to return to Australia,” said the Senior Detective.
