A SIGNIFICANT APPOINTMENT

Stephen Walsh, ex-Minister of War, has been elected president of the Lancashire and Cheshire Miners’ Union. The newspapers point out that this marks a new era in the miners’ organisation, likely to have far-reaching repercussions. —Sydney Sun Cable, The Right Stephen Walsh, Labour M.P. for the Ince Division of Lancashire since 1906, was Secretary of State to the War Department from January to November, 1924.
