ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
MOTOR CYCLE FATALITY. COLLISION WITH A BUS. (Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, January 10. Injuries which terminated fatally at 5.45 o’clock this morning were received by Stanley Baster, of Regina street, Grey Lynn, when be was thrown from the aidecar of a motor cycle which overturned in Great North road last evening. Going along Great North road toward Avondale, Albert Roy Allen, driver of the motor cycle, when near Alexandra street suddenly noticed a stationary bus immediately in front of him. He put on his brakes and tried to swerve, but he was too close to the bus to avoid a collision. Baster was thrown out of the side-car, falling heavily and striking his head on the concrete roadway. He was immediately conveyed to the Auckland Hospital, but died this morning. Allen received bruises to his face, arms, and knees, but his condition is not thought to be serious. Evidence of identification only was taken at the inquest this morning, and the inquiry was adjourned sine die.
A LABOURER’S DEATH. (Peb Ukited Pbess Association.) WOODVILLE, January 10. An inquest was held this morning concerning the death of Robert Russell, a labourer on contract road making in the Eketahuna County, aged 48 years, married, with a wife and children in Ireland. Death occurred at a whare at Woodville on Saturday afternoon following a drinking bout. Deceased and his brother had been spending a holiday at Napier and had arrived at Woodville on Tuesday. He went to Farrell’s whare on Thursday. The coroner’s verdict was in accordance with the medical testimony, that death was due to the effects of chronic interstital pneuznonia and acute alcoholism. The brothers had been in the Dominion two years. FOUND INJURED. (Peb United PbeoS Association.) WELLINGTON, January 10, A man named Stanley James Johnson, single, aged 26 years, was found lying in the yard of his residence yesterday morning. His head was severely injured, and his condition is serious. DEATH IN HOSPITAL. (Special to Daily Times.) CHRISTCHURCH. January 10. At an inquest to-day concerning the death of Mrs Caroline Mangher, who died in St. Helens Hospital on the morning of January 7 during an operation necessitated through complications of childbirth, the medical evidence showed that death was due to heart failure while under an anaesthetic aggravated by haemorrhage. A verdict was returned accordingly. TWO STREET ACCIDENTS. Stanley Wilson; aged 16 years, a telegraph messenger, living at Port Chalmers, was admitted to the Hospital at 12.30 tun. yesterday with injuries to the left foot, received through being knocked down by a dray in Crawfo 1 street. Another youth, named Victor Clark, who was riding a motor cycle on Caversham Rise, received injuries to the head and leg through colliding with a motor car. He was admitted to the Hospital at 5.45 p.m.
