CISTUS LADANIFEROUS.
Those planting Cistuses (.'his season should not overlook the subject of this note for it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful of the race, and one that I should have no hesitation in placing among the best halfdozen of the genus. Though practically identical witji the typo in every other respect, the flowers of C. L. var. immacidatus are unblolchod. They are also larger-than those of ,the parent species, often being live inches across. The petals are exquisitely crimped, very delicate in texture, and of the purest snow-white. This variety is quite os robust as the typical plant, which means that in a free, warm soil it will withstand up to 20 deg. of frost. It is easily raised from cuttings, struck in a cold frame in August, and grows rapidly, soon making a slender-habited bush of about five feet or more in height. Although C. ladaniferous produces seeds freely with us the above variety has never vet done so. —N. Wales, in the Gardeners’ Chronicle.
