THE EXHIBITION.

COURT OR EDUCATION. A meeting- of the executive of the Court of Education of the New Zealand and South Sens Exhibition Company was held recently. A letter from the Education Department ashing for estimates of the cost of fitting up the court, caretaker, cleaning-, etc., was referred to a sub-committee for report. A letter was received from the editor of the School Journal stating that space would be found in the July munber ot the Journal for material regarding the Exhibition It was resolved that the dates for the essay competition be amended to provide that essays bo written in August and forwarded to the boards by the head-teachers not later than August 31. A loiter was received from the secretary of the Otago Education Board’s Manual Instructors stating their desire to make an effective display. —The matter was referred to the Primary Schools Committee to confer with instructors. A 1 letter from Magna Chart a Day Association, St. Paul, Minn., U.S.A.. wrote asking for an expression of opinion as to the advisability of having an exhibit ot the Exhibition. It was resolver! that the Hon. A. S. Malcolm be asked to say whether ho knew anyone here who is prepared to undertake responsbility in connection with an exhibit from the association. Several entries for the Home Industries Section were accepted. The question of overlapping between the Home Industries Section and the Women’s Section of the Exhibition was referred to Mr Macdonald to confer with the Women’s Committee. It was reported that the Otago Branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute had made, a donation of £3O, wh'c.:i, with the grant of £IOO made by the University Council, made £530 raised locally for Court, This was receiver! with thanks. Hie secretaries wore appointed j t treasurers. The Lay-out Committee, recommended that the lay-out plan as prepared by the architects be approved: and that the Wellington Committee bo informed that there was not sufficient space for ideal schoolroom as suggested, but that the committee in charge of school architecture w-ould be asked to consider whether it could not in some measure give effect to the suggestion. Tho report was adopted. Mr Macdonald submitted reports from the Primary Schools Committee regarding the proposed Primary Schools Exhibition Choir of not more than 500 voices, the sports meeting to bo held in iVTarch, 1926, nnoer direct control of the Public Schools Sports Association and representatives’ of private schools, and the physical exhibitions and competitions during the Exhibition. It was resolved that, tho proposals ho approved and be sent to tho Exhibition Company, the company to ho askod to stale tho position regarding entrance charges. The committee’s report was approved at Thursday night’s meeting of the Exhibition directors.
