MOSGIEL BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Tie first meeting of the newly-elected Mosgiel Borough Council was presided over by the Mayor (Mr J. P. alls). There was a full attendance of councillors. The returning oliicer reported the result of the election held a week previously, and the Mayor wa? duly installed and the councillors sworn in tor the ensuing term. The Mayor briefly welcomed the councillors, and wished tiiern a pleasant term of office. It was decided to maintain the present system of all members of the council having a seat ou the various committees, with the following as chairmen: —finance, the Mayor; Works, Cr J. Wright; Reserves,. Cr J. Henderson; General, Cr G. A. iViHeod. Cr Henderson was re-elected cleputy-Mayor. The reports of the committees for the past month, which were of a brief nature on. account of the change from the retiring to the new council, were read and adopted. A letter was received from Mrs Pringle (Mosgiol) regarding contributions towards a rest room at tho Dunedin Exhibition.—lt was resolved to reply that the subscriptions of one shilling each could be left with the town clerk (Air Butcher). —The Mayor said he hoped tho local people would come forward with plenty of shillings, as it was a very worthy cause. When Mosgiel women visited the Exhibition .they would have a rest room at their disposal. The council later spent a social hour at Walker’s tea rooms. At tho invitation of the Mayor, tho council and members of neighbouring local bodies assembled to do honour to the occasion, i The Mayor presided, and a list of appropriate toasts, interspersed with songs and recitations, was honoured.
