LONDON, May 6. „The Evening Standard says that several .61 the Channel ports axe choked with goods, which are being feverishly dumped across in order to escape the reimposition of the M'Kenna duties on July 1. There are 50 truckloads of French motor-cirs at Folkestone, and the Customs officers are passing clocks and watches by the ten at Dover. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
THE CHANCELLOR’S PRECAUTIONS. ANTE-DATING OPERATION OF DUTIES POSSIBLE. LONDON, May 6. (Received May 7, at 7.10 p.m.) In the House of Commons Mr Winston Churchill, replving to questions regarding the dumping of Continental goods in order to avoid the M'Kenna duties, said he anticipated some increased importation, but he would not hesitate to seek the authority of the House to antedate the operation of the duties if his revenue estimate showed signs of excessive importation. In the meantime the Customs was keeping a careful record of all importations with a view to collecting the duty retrospectively if such a source voro necessary.—Reuter.
