SYDNEY, May 7. The Trebartha wont ashore on a reef near Nasolamon Island. All efforts to refloat the vessel were unsuccessful. Although her position was not at first believed to be serious, the latest advices received indicate that the vessel might become a total wreck. At the time of stranding the Trebartha was bound from Madang (New Guinea) to Kaewieng, the approach to which is somewhat difficult of navigation. The Trebartha is a steel screw vessel and was built in 1920 by J. Readhead and Sons, Ltd., South Shields, for the Hain Steam Ship Company. She is 410 ft long, 52ft wide, and 25ft 9in in depth, and is 4597 tons gross. She arrived at Dunedin on March 14 'rom Sydney (Cape Breton), St. John, and Newport News via Panama, Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Timaru. The 900 tons of cargo discharged at the Rattray street wharf consisted of merchandise and The Trebartha left Dunedin on March 17 for Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney to complete her discharge.
