(Received May 6, at 11.40 p.m.) At the half-yearly meeting of the Colonial Sugar Refining Company the chairman said that there would be a large exportable surplus if the mills were able to crush cane. Most of the surplus was already sold. For the half year ended March 31 the net profit was £435,675, com - pared with £324,978 for the previous half year. The latest earnings were made up of £281,624 from the Australian mills and refineries and other investments subject to Federal taxation and £154,051 represented earnings in New Zealand, Fiji and other investments not subject to Federal taxation. A dividend at the rate of 10 per cent, per annum for the half year absorbs £243,750 and a bonus of 5s per share takes £60,938. A hundred thousand was placed to the reserve fund and the balance carried forward.
