THE FORBURY PARK MEETING. By Sentinel. The Forbury Park Trotting Club will open its winter meeting and final fixture of the local light-harness season to-day. The heavy rain which set in earlier in the week made the track very heavy, but it was drying up well yesterday, and it the weather is favourable overnight and during the forenoon the going should be passable, although on the slow side. Late yesterday afternoon the track was treated to a light harrowing, and this should assist in drying up the surface. There is said to be a doubt about Linden and Orion starting in the Prince of Wales Handicap. It will be rather surprising if the latter does not go to the post, as he has been one of the most discussed horses in the field. The same stable, however, has Delavan Quest engaged,' and he and Dolly Dillon may dispute favouritism, whilst Realm generally acts well in soft going, and he is sure to find support on that account. Bwiftbine and Nelson M‘Kinney may be the ijopufar picks for the Bayfield Handicap, and Joy Chimes may be fancied for the Domain Handicap, but in this race the best opinion may be indicated by the beting on the totalisalor. Lady Embrace should carry support for the Beach Handicap if. she has improved in her behaviour at the start of a race. Glen Wilkes went well at Invercargill, and Menember put up two good winning performances at Addington, which must entitle him to consideration. The back-markers in the Innovation Handicap may be picked out to go a solid race, and Thistlewood may prove the best of the front division. Audo Bell has done so well that he will lie selected to keep the .back-markers busy in the St. Clair Handicap, and Napland may bo selected to supply most danger. Jolly Chimes will probably start favourite for the Renown .Handicap, and Alto Chimes and Fancy Roy will be supported for the Flying Handicap, particularly if Linden and Bell Harold start in the principal event. The first race is timed to start at 11.15. ROSIE NUT CASE A meeting of the committee of the Forbury Park Trotting Club was held last night (Air B. S. Irwin presiding) to continue the inquiry into the ownership of Rosie Nut. The inquiry was commenced last year, when the evidence of the owner (Mr Hancock) went to show that he paid his trainer (Mr E. J. Smith) a third of the stake won by Rosie Nut, thus constituting a partnership—a partnership which was not registered as required by the rules of trotting. Hancock, in a second statement, denied that he paid his trainer a third of the stake won by the mare. The committee, after deliberating, decided to fine Hancock £2O, and to call ‘on Smith to explain his connection with the matter. Smith denied that Hancock had made him any offer of. a third of the stakes won, and said he could prove by his books that no such arrangement as had been stated by Hancock in his first evidence had been come to. The inquiry was then adjourned, and Smith was requested to submit his books to the committee on his next visit to Dunedin. Last night Smith produced his books, and the committee finally decided to accept his statement that he had no agreement, as alleged, with Hancock. CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB. WINTER CUP STAKE .INCREASED. (Pie United Pbebb Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 6. At a meeting of the Committee ot the Canterbury Jockey Club the report of the Programme Committee showed the only increase in stakes at the Grand National meeting, which' has been raised from 800sovs to ICOOsovs. Alterations of minimum weights have been made in a few races, but the main amendment has been to eliminate the set penalties and adopt the system of rehandicapping winners. The stake of the New Zealand Cup remains the same, but the new conditions as to rehandicapping will apply, and m view of the statutory minimum of 7st imposed by Parliament the maximum limit of the handicap has been fixed at 9.6. AUCKLAND TROTTING MEETING. KOHARA WINS CHIEF EVENT, (Pee United Phess • Association,) AUCKLAND, May 6. The Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting was concluded to-day. The weather was fine, and there was a large attendance. The course was slow owing to light ram on the previous day.
