NEW PACIFIC CABLE.

TENDERS ACCEPTED FOR DUPLICATION. HEAVY EXPENDITURE INVOLVED. (Pee United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 5. The Government has received advice, that tenders have been accepted for the duplication of the Pacific cable from Canada to Fiji by September of next year. The Fanning Island section (Pamfield, Vancouver, to Fanning Island. 5458 nautical miles) will be laid by the Telegraph Construction and Maintenance Company, and the Fanning Island to Fiji sections" (2043 nautical miles) by the Siemans Company. Owing to the greater price of metals the cost is expected to bo nearly £1,000,000 more is expected to be nearly £1.000,000 more than the original cable, but the board has over £2.000.000 in hand. The dale for the completion of both duplications is fixed for September, 1926.
