THE OTAGO ART SOCIETY. IO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Although here has been no definite announcement it is generally understood that there will be no exhibition this year by the Otago Art Society, lest it should clash with the Great Exhibition. Surely that is a fallacy. (1) The Otago Society’s exhibition could be held in October (2) artists striving for their masterpiece would have their work prepared and shown at both exhibitions, and why not? (3) Artists are deprived of their opportunity of sales, while surely they have a hard enough row to hoe; and (4) members are deprived of their art union ticket—a small matter individually, but one that helps the artists. May some wiser counsel prevail ! —I am, etc., Frederick R. Ddnsfoed. Dunedin, May 5.
