PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.
MEETING OF SOCIETY. Tho monthly meeting of the Otago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held yesterday afternoon, when there were present; Mr Crosby Morris (in the chair), Mrs and Miss Portoous, and Messrs W. F. Sligo, T. Elliott, and P. Johnston. The Inspector’s report on the work done during the month was received. A letter was received from the Canterbury Society suggesting that a conference should be held in Dunedin during the Exhibition.—lt was decided to reply stating that such a conference would probably be advantageous, and to ask the Canterbury Society to advise the Otago Society of the replies from other societies. A letter was received from Mr J. L. Watson, Invercargill, stating that a meeting of those interested in the re-formation of a society had been held in Invercargill. The offer of the Otago Society in respect of boundaries had been accepted, and it had been decided that the Southland branch of the society would commence operations at once. Mr A. Duncan had been appointed inspector for the Southland district. —It was decided to write asking if the society could commence operations at the end of the month.
