Sib, —Men employed by tba Otago Land Board aro at present planting sand-binding gross on a settler's farm at Sandymount, Otago Peninsula, a sand drift coming' off a neighbouring farm, I have heard of many misappropriations of tax-payers' money, but for downright audacity, this takes precedence of all others. That august body, the Otago Land Board, must have extended its functions when it attends to the improvement of •private farms. Less would it matter if tha board was not conversant with the facts.—. I am, etc., J. J. Nthos. nVo are informed that a drift of sand oft Government rasarves has bqen injuring aDd threatening the properties of Mrs Weir and Mr D. Young at Sandymount Ten acres of valuable land have been covered by the drift. Reports were obtained on the subject from several Government experts, and eventually the Minister of Lands authorisod the expenditure of £50 on the planting of marram • grass on sandhills adjoining Mr Young's residence. The Government, in other words, reoognised its responsibility for damage caußed by a draft of Band from publio reserves. — lin. &.D.T.]
