CITY PROGRESS i p s a well-known and recognised fact that if the four large New Zealand centres Dunedm easily holds pride of place in the matter of providing ample shopping facilities for the convenience of its many citizens. Xhe latest ftnd most attractive proof of this onward w march of progress is demonstrated by the fine, clean, and palatial butchery establishment carried on by Mr J. W. Thomas (the originator of the' cash-over-the-counter system) in Stuart street. A casual look round this shop at once gives one the impression that spotless cleanliness is the watohword of the whole establishment, and when you see the high-waisted tiled surrounds, t'ho smooth plaster walls with their glass-like surface, the clean, fresh, sawdusty floors, and last, but not least, the smart business-liko butchers in their snow-white apparel, you begin to appreciate that, at least, in this shop everything is as it should bo whero foodstuffs are sold. The establishment itself has had to be enlarged to meet the creator and yet greater demands for the high-class .roods that are sold, and we need only mention the fact that close on four tons of sausages and smallgoods are manufactured woekly to let anyone know that the firm's goods are eagerly sought after. The smallgoods window, particularly on the late shopping nights—Fridays and Saturdays—is really a sight worth seeing. There are sausages, stuffed pork, veal and -ham. black and white puddings, brawn, Belgian sausage, saveloys, tripe, mild baoon, delicious hams, and many other delicaci-es too numerous to meiUion. All these are made bv a ohef—Mr W. Norton—who knows his business, and who was for many years in charge of the smalleroods department for Messrs A. and J. M'Farlnne. and it is very questicr ble ind-fod if there is a better snow to bo found in the four centres of the dominion. Mr Thomas is to be oorvrratulited on his forward move, a move in kocpincr with the high traditions of our city, and our citizens are to bo con(rratulnted on bavinc in midst such a high-class butehery establishment. where they can get the verv best moat of the very primest qualitv at the very lowest prices. —Advfc
