FIRE AT BROKEN HILL
MINE SERIOUSLY DAMAGED
INCENDIARISM SUSPECTED.

Tho greater portion of tho surface workings of the South Broken Hill mine, Broken Hill, was destroyed, tho estimated damage being about £500,000. It will be from 18 mouths to two years before operations can be resumed, and 1000 miners will bo rendered idle for that period. It is suspected that tho lire was caused by tho 1.W.W., as it broke out in four places at once, and the telephones had been tampered with, the firemen receiving tho alarms through the mine's whistles.
