The Kaiapoi, which reached Port Chalmers on Tuesday evening, came up - to town at 9 a.m. yesterday, and proceeded to discharge the local portion of her coal cargo at the Biroh street wharf. She will sail from hero to-day for Blufi, where she -will complete her • discharge. The Te Anau reached 'Wellington at 8 am yesterday from Dunedin, via Lyttelton. She was due to sail later in tie day for Picton, where she will load for Auckland. The Mokoia, which has been forced to lie outside Napier since Sunday on account of bad weather, was berthed yesterday morning, hut the work of v discharging her cargo was considerably hampered by heavy rain which . fell at the port.. ,» . The weather at Greymouth yesterday was fine, but there was a moderate swell runnine on the bar. The Kini sailed from Greymouth at 11 pjn. • on Tuesday for Gisborne and Napier. SAILORS FOR BRITISH SHIPS. Rear-ndniirnl Sir Reginald Tyrwhitt, speaking at tho annual mooting of the British and Foreign Sailors' Society at the Mansion House, London, particularly emphasised tho importance of British ships being manned! by British men. Before the war it was a common , 'occurrence to find men of seven or eight different nationalities upon our ships, but this wes a thing which could not be continued. _ Thus in training men for the eea> the eooioty was doing a very important work. The admiral apoke in terms of cordial appreciation of the operations of the eocioty, referring particularly to the relief afforded all the dependents of seamen to whom, after careful consideration, assistance) had been given, not as a charity, but as a right.

The war record of the society was one of which it might well be proud. During the war over 40,000 men, women, and children, victims from 1265 ships sunk by the German submarine policy, had been relieved.
