Tho monthly mooting of the Moray Place School Committee took place on Monday evening; present—Messrs A. Miller (acting chairman), Robert Ilughson, James Stevens Georgo Swan, J v Greig, W. Pattison, and F. J. O'Nsill. Tho bead master reported tnat during tho past montli the attendance was steady. The number now on the roll was 320. It was decided to hold a concert in the near future for the purpose of augmenting the funds for the erection of a suitable memorial for tho ex-pupils who have given their cervices during tho recent war, and for sundry improvements required for the benefit of the 6ohool in general. Tho Dunedin Choral Society held ' its weekly practice last night, continuing its preparation for the " Elijah " concert, to be given in His Majesty's Theatre on' Saturday, August 16. The chairman of committee introduced Mr A. T. Atwill, an active member of tho society, -who has been ap-

pointed to the position of honorary deputy conductor. It was announced that the music to bo studied for the third concert of tho 1919 season would be Gounod's Faust, Woman's Mission," for chorus and orchestra, specially written by Miss Hawcridge (one of tho 'society's orchestra); three now British folk songs, and two items by the orchestra. This programme was frreeted with 'Warm approval. Efforts are being made to get 400 honorary msnifcers before tho "Elijah" concert is .given. Mr A. Davidson presided over the monthly meeting of the District High School Committee last night. A 'otter was received from the Education Board notifying that Miss Maitland had been promoted to the position of s'xth as sistant on the staff, and that Miss Sim had been appointed junior assistant. Tho board advised that it could not grant the committee's request for the use of tho teacher's residence by the janitor. but if the committee cared to pay -lie rental the board would give it preference as the tenant of the house. It was decided to attend to a request from A. E. Bacon regarding trees on the school nropertv over hanging his section. A circular from the board relating to Arbor Day and tho plant rag of memorial tree.- was held over for farther consideration. Ac.rounts amounting to £12 10s were passed for payment
