The contest for the South Otago banner has reached a most interesting stage. Crescent (Kaitanga.a) defeated! Milton last Saturday at Balclutha by eight points to nil, and thus placed thesa teams on an equality as : regards banner points (11 each), with one match to play. l Clutha and Ronuaihapa (the o.iher contestants) are out of tho running, and in all probability a deciding match, will ha-ro to be played between Crescent and Milton to decide ilie wirmons of tho banner. Should this prove tiho oass o, strenuous and exciting gc-mo is probable, with the odds in favour of Crescent.
