General Macandrew, who led the Fifth Cavalry A vision in its Palestine dasli and arrived at Damascus simultaneously with the Australian Mounted Division, died tragically at Aleppo. An orderly was cleaning the general's tunic, when the general caane in clad in his pyjamas and smoking a cigarette. The vapour from the benzine exploded, and General Macandrew was bo badly burned that he died in hospital.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
