OTAGO RUGBY UNION. The ordinary meeting of the committee of the Otago Rugby Union was held last night The president (Mr H. Harris) occupied the cimir. Mr J. W. Hayes (secretary of the Southern Olub) wrote stating that in the match against Port Chalmers his team was short". Ogg, a league player, had then come on, and the captain of the Southern Club (Bain) only discovered that he was a league player some 10 minutes later, but then allowed him to play on. The club r*gretted the tnci-, dent. —The Port Chalmers Club appealed, and asked that the match (which was won by the Southern Club) bo awarded to them. —Mr Whito moved —"That the Southern Club's explanation be accepted, and that the committee regretted that Ogg was allowed to continue playing after the captain's attention was drawn to the fact, but that the committee take no further action in the matter." —Mr.Cook seconded the motion.— Mr Wilson moved as i an amendment—"That the Southern Club bo censored for playing Ogg."—Mr M'Neill seconded the amendment.—The amendment was lost, and tho motion was earned. v . Mr Whito then moved that the SouthernPort Chalmers match be awarded to the Port Chalmers Club. —Mr Procter secondod t,he motion, which was carried. ' Mr Freeman (secretary of the Union Club) wrote stating that the Union v. Mx A. H. Clemens (secretary of the South Canterbury Union) wrote asking if, in /iew of the Wellington southern tour having been abandoned, it would be pos sible for the Otago. Union to Bend a representative team to play a South Canterbury team in on August 11 or 21. —It was decided to inform the South Canterbury Union that it was impossible, owing to the railway restrictions, to send a team as re quested. In connection with tho decision of the Wellington Union not to send a team south this year, owing to the railway restrictions, the Chairman said that Mr Geddes, of the Southland Union, had informed him that the Southland Union was prepared to pay £25 towards the extra expenses which would be incurred if -the Wellington team could be prevailed on to come down. Mr Geddes urged the Otago Union to do something in the same direction. This arrangement, how ever, said the Chairman, was before the fur ther railway restrictions had been decided on. Now the northern players would have to be brought down from Ohristchur.ch by motor cars, and be carried on from Dunedin by motor cars to Southland. The expense would be' very heavy—about £25 a car from Christchurch to Dunedin and return, —and five cars would be required.—The intimation that the Wellington Union could not send a team south was thereupon re ceived Tho Chairman said, in connection with the removal of disqualifications, that thero were certain disqualifications which the unio.'i eou'.d remove itself without any reference to the New Zealand Union. Such removals had been carried, out in tho north. He thought, as an act of clemency to celebrate the end of the war, that it would be a s°°tl thing if they started with a clean sheet.—iMr White moved in tho direction indicated by tha chairman. —Mr Cavanagh seconded the motion, which was carried.— The action of the union means that every disqualification imposed in previous seasons and also this season (over which the union lias jurisdiction without reference to the New Zealand Union) is removed. _ Those players whose sentences of disqualification carried them past last night are also again eligible to play.
