PEACE CELEBRATIONS
REJOICINGS AT ROXBURGH. (Feom Oub Own Coreesposdent.) July 22. . Tho local xjrogrammo of peace celebrations -ivas successfully carried out as ari ranged. The Coal Creek Plat section , moved from the town -boundary to meet tho j Roxburgh procession, which was drawn up ; at tho school. Headed by tho brass band, | with Mr W. Toms as marshal, it proceeded t down Scottish street to the Town Hall, where tho Mayor (Mr H. Waisth, sen) ad- , ilressed tho people in appropriate terms, , reading out the names of tho men from tho l district who had given their lives for tho t causo of liberty. The procession then disporsod Refreshments wero provided, and ( these tho children heartily enjoyed. East Roxburgh provided one item which was \ much appreciated, its motto being "The i rt a PPy,Home,'-' its purport to show that ? J-.nta.ins supremacy depended upon the { cradle being kept full. Roxburgh town's . special item was a representation of Sandy's selection, and it was one of tho best things . in the procession. There wero a large number of excellent spectacular displays and • tho humorous element found a welcome pLnce rhe Coal Creek Flat people also , helped materially to mako a success of tho L exhibition, and the band lent valuable sor- . vice. [ rJT h ° £°P cert at ni en* was a great success. . many being unable to gain admission and I encores were the order of the evening. The ■ rts , °, a , Mon day and the ball were also . attended by the most gratifying results, and it was generally agreed that tho celebra . tions from first to last had been a manor- , ablo event in the history of the town. 3
