NEW SHIPS ORDERED. INCREASED TONNAGE NECESSARY. Prees Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. PARIS, July 25. The Government has ordered 509.000 tons of shipping, and private firms are constructing 1,015,000 tons, thus restoring the French merchant fleet to its pre-war footing. The Minister of Transport says that France must raise her merchant fleet to 5,000 000 tons. He will shortly introduce a Bill which wLI give France a fleet twice as J.ijge as before the war. It will bo constructed at the national shipyards the operations occupying three years.—A.' and N.Z. Cable.
