PORT 1 CHALMERS v. Y.M.C.A. This match was played on Saturday, and resulted in a win ior tho latt-.T by 3 goals Jim • • i,Vom lilu k'lUy-olf Port Chalmers (White) rushed thoir opponents' circle, but the defence of the Y.M.C.A. (Rod-and-Whiaj) hacks proved equal to the occasion, and soon (he Kcd-and-Whites were on the uUaek. Several attempts at scoring woro made by the Red-and-White, forwards, but oilsido play relieved the Whiles. Shortly alter a run was mndn by tho Y.M.C.A. forwards, which resulted in Phillips scoring. The 1. ort team continued to attack, and several good shots at goal narrowly missed tho net. Jn tho second spell both teams seemed to lvon up, and several limes the Whites coked' like scoring, but tho eiforts wero beaten off by Finch. From a fine piece of forward play by the Red-a.nd-White team Mncphorson netted Y.M.C.A.'s second goal. An attack was-soon afterwards mado by the Port forwards, and from a good pass by Craigio the Whites scored their first goal. Play continued up and down tho field for some time, when • Rae passed to Phillips, who added another iroal for tho Red-and-Whites. Port again began to look dangerous, but tho Red-and-White goalkeeper cleared for his side. Tho Rfid-and-Whites were pressing their opponents when lime was called., the final score being: Y.M.C.A. 3, Port Chalmers 1. For the winners,

D/ew.. Rae, Prentice, Phillips, and Finch were most conspicuous. Macpherson played good hockey, but did not seom to bo able to keep on side. For Port, Armstrong, Hardy. O'Connoll, and Craigie played well. Mr Jamioson controlled the game. COLLEGE v. GYMNASTIC. This match, played on Oval No. 3, resulted in a win for College, Owing- to the rough state of the ground the ball was very hard to field, and this destroyed to a great extent any attempt at good combination. At the opening of tho jrame College pressed hard, and, although they were in the Reds' circle many times, they could not score. At last, after a scramble in the circle, Smith put in a clever shot for College. After this Reds livened up, and forced College several times, one shot missing- by inches Half- . time sounded ivith no further addition u> the score. During the second half the College backs, Mayor and Lockhart, kept tbfe ball well up the field, and in quick sneces sion College added three more goals. Rods retaliated, but their. efforts wore resultloss. Hodges made a good solo attempt, and, beating two opponents, scored a good goal. After this tho Reds pressed very hard, and in a sc/amblo in the College circle a hard relieving shot .unfortunately disabled the referee, • and tho game was thu3 stopped close on time, Gymnastic agreeing to grant the win to College. For Gymnastic, Hogg, M'Leod, and the centre "forward played solid games For College, the two full backs and Brown and Stevens (in the half backs) played well. M'Ahan played his usual unselfish game. Goals were scored by Smith (1), Moore (3), and Hodges (1). Mr T. S. Mitchell controlled the game. LADIES' HOCKEY. Taieri defeated Momona by 7 i;oals to nil, the scorers for the winners behV M Hanlin (3), J. Hanlin (2), D. Wedderspoon .(2). •Mγ Webb.controlled the game. In .the B Grade match, University, playing three short, were defeajpd by Waiata by 6; goals to 1. Goals were scored for Waiata by Miss Wynne (5) and Miss Patterson, and for University by Miss Rose.

Wellington (the holders of the Hockey Shield) met Manawatu on tihe Basin Reserve to-day before a fairly large attendance. The -early stages of tho game were fairly [ even, and although Manawatu attacked with plenty of vim the Wellington backs werp I equal to the occasion. Afte,r defending for' about- 15 minutes Wellington became dangerous, and a lively sortie by tho home forwards ended in Champness scoring. After t a while Wellington resumed the attack, but . good work by their forward division was . nullified bv the solid defence of tho visitors. t Later on Manawatu forced the pace, and the ■ Wellington goalkeeper went out to stop a. '. shot. The ball was sent out, but Tait secured i quickly and shot into tho empty coal, mak--5 ing the score even. After Wellington had / attacked for some time Manawatu got awav and Fitt scored. Manawatu 2 goals, Wellington 1. In the second spell Manawafcu attacked at first, but Wellington replied willingly, though without any luck. Several times Wellington shot, but" the Manawatu " goalkeeper kept the ball out. Manawatu * continued to defend determinedly, and at 1 length had Wellington defending.
